James Corden and Rosie O'Donnell enthusing at each other about how much they love Hamilton and bursting into a joint performance of the first song:

Also, I have wondered how the show would play across the pond, particularly in the UK. Corden seems to have no reservations on that score.

Well, I'm British and live in the UK and I fell in love with it on first listen (which followed siderea's post about it). My friend Nicholas Whyte (who holds Irish, British and Belgian citizenship and lives in Belgium) also liked it: http://nwhyte.livejournal.com/2598465.html

I think there are resonances I'm just not going to get because it's not my country's founding myths being played with and references I don't get without help. George III's creepy boyfriend songs are hilarious, and I think we (British people) are used to being the villains in US dramas and films, so I don't think that's going to be a barrier.

Fundamentally it's a brilliant work of music and lyrics and *that* is why I've been playing it repeatedly. I'm in the weird position where I seem to be the accidental evangelist for it among most of the people I know Who Like Musicals. (I do not know my musicals very well; I have a project to rectify this when I can stop looping Hamilton). I think when it comes to London, which it apparently will in 2017, it's going to be very popular.

"Old creaking & grumpy" is pan-national, and gets my vote.

I want to be as rich and connected as Rosie, so I can substitute weekly Hamilton attendance for worship services.

I know right! I was thinking "I have been half-considering changing our holiday plans so we visit New York this year, if I could *find* a ticket for less than a plane fare, and you've been HOW MANY times?!?"

At least it is coming to London eventually. I'll have to wait for it (wait for it).

Thanks for your perspective, and for linking to Nicholas' post. I'm delighted to know that the show translates to non-Americans.

I grew up on Golden Age musicals, so they're very much a part of my DNA. Hope you find you enjoy them.
